    APWU Endorses Obama ?

    Wednesday, April 9, 2008, 01:18 PM [General]

I don't remember being asked if I support Barack Obama! This came out today in the APWU newsletter. I am not very political, but they are saying that it was unanimous and I am a union member. Please don't speak for me without asking me first!

    APWU Endorses Sen. Barack Obama

(04/09/08) The National Executive Board of the American Postal Workers Union has voted unanimously to endorse Sen. Barack Obama for president.

"Sen. Obama's message is one of hope and change," said union President William Burrus. "His message is special, and the timing is right."

"We are most impressed by Sen. Obama's commitment to eradicating the undue influence of special interests in the political process," he said. "Our current political system does not allow for the voices of average citizens to be heard over the demands of lobbyists and big-money campaign contributors.

"Sen. Obama has vowed to change that, and his campaign has flourished through the participation of new voters and small contributors," Burrus said. "We believe he will be a president who will strongly represent the interests of working Americans."

"His ability to bring new participants into our nation's democratic process - to get young people involved, and to persuade ordinary citizens that they have a real stake in politics - is an inspiration."

"We are pleased to endorse Sen. Barack Obama for president of the United States, and we will commit our energy and efforts to help him win the White House."

Carole, I totally agree with you!
William Burrus is backing Senator Obama for obvious reasons. The same reason he spent $175,000 of our APWU dues to fly members down to Jena, Louisiana for that protest last November.
COPA could give a flying fart in outer space whom I vote for but still they take my COPA contributions anyway. I am in the minority on the website as I am a registered Republican and yet a union steward at the same time.
This is America, vote for whomever you please. Don't let the APWU tell you how to live your life.

It's sad but a lot of people will vote the way their union tells them to. Even if the candidate is clearly anti-American. This will be a tough year for voting. I really don't care for any of them.

the NRLCA has pulled the same stunt as the APWU. my problem isn't with their candidate of choice, but how they did it. the APWU and NRLCA national executive boards decided on their own to endorse a candidate without consulting with any state or local unions as they have done in years past. both our unions have way too much on the top. dictatorships shouldn't be allowed in america.
