Ok, I've been waiting FOUR MONTHS to get a sub--who will work every other Saturday, and I have finally gotten one. Monday she shadowed me and it was the longest training day of my life. It was just a heavy day, and I didnt get back til 5pm and cased flats til 7pm. 12 hour day no break and soaking wet from torrential rains...ugh! Anyway, she spent the rest of the week in her last half of training in another city.
Today was a super easy day. I got back to the post office at 12:15pm. When I get there, who should I find but my new sub sitting in my case with papers everywhere. The 2nd new sub is also there in my friends case. I don't know how it works in your offices, but we never have subs come in on a first or second day to sit alone with nothing to do. They had been there since TEN OCLOCK! And they put it on their time cards! The PM wasnt there today so they just sat there alone (the one clerk we had was busy at window all day) I said, what have you been doing all morning then?
They had actually sat there and wrote down EVERY SINGLE NUMBER on my case into a notebook...no ones names, just NUMBERS. I said, if that's all you wanted I could have given you my spare label sheets! I have never seen anyone just sit there and write numbers. I have a simple route. Simple numbers, simple streets, if any route needed to be written down, I could think of harder ones. And no, Im not forgetting what its like to be a sub, this is just really bizarre and a WASTE of their training hours. My sub turns and looks at sub #2 and says "she cant believe that we're doing this!" And you know WHY she says that? Because sub #2 USED to be an RCA 2 years ago, so she knows EVERYTHING. My friend said it was impossible monday during shadow day because the sub knew EVERYTHING and MORE so she just quit talking to her. So my sub has latched on to know-it-all sub for the last 2 weeks of training and is only listening to her and not what everyone else is telling her.
Anyway, here's what else.
I keep bundles of mail under my desk in my own organized fashion--holds, coa's waiting for label return, mlna holds, etc...She had gone under my desk and REORGANIZED EVERYTHING. AAARGH!
She had also taken all of my COA cards (people had filled out) that dont start for WEEKS FROM NOW and written them all down on the pink cards and put 5/7/08 as the start dates (today is the NINTH and they dont start til the end of the month so wrong date anyway) and I said, you don't need to be going through these and doing this, you dont need to worry about this stuff right now.
She's never touched mail in an office in her life and she had jumped in all gung ho while I was away today, I was so ill. I felt invaded and annoyed.
On ONE HAND I am glad she is so enthused and may prove to be a hard working sub
ON THE OTHER HAND I feel like she is listening way too much to sub #2 and not enough to ME. She's crossing my lines.
I left the office after 10 minutes of trying to put my stuff away and immediately called my friend who had today off. I told her what her sub (sub #2) was doing with my sub today, and she spazzed too. For some reason, her new sub had filled the entire top row of her case with rainbow sheets of paper, I don't know WHAT she was doing while she was sitting there, it was weird. It was funny, my friend was like "what?! NO ONE TOUCHES MY CASE!" lol
Needless to say, she's stopping by the office on her way back home.
Im sure I sound like a complete bitch about all this, but if I'm going to be honest, I really did feel aggravated today. Let's hope Monday runs smoothly.

Oh, and then an old lady chased me across her yard to catch me and give me a "mothers day" present. I said with a big awkward smile THANKS! But Im not a mom!
She said, its ok, keep it for when you ARE a mom.
And I said, but I cant have kids!
She said keep it anyway!
You know what it is? I big gaudy blue ceramic cross. Something an 80 year old woman would have among the cluttered shelves of her home. What am I going to do with it? If I chuck it in the dumpster, God will smite me.
*sigh*

Update:
friend just called and said she stopped by the office. ALL her pink cards are GONE. All the cards with all the coa's GONE.
ok take a deep breath and smile--
meitwill get better!
now take the cross and put on a shelf and leave it there so that when you turn 80 you will see it and smile an remember when you were a mail carrier and know that your coustomers loved you .
now ok you may have to kill the sub! seriously she is not making a good impression on anyone except the other sub.
is she riding with you agian? if so make sure to tell her how you do things and that you really like to have a sub that kind of follows the same line of thnking because it makes both of your jobs so much easier.
if that dosnt help take her into the woods and drop her off and tell her she can use the list of numbers she wrote down to hep get her back to the PO.
