    The Week Thus Far

Friday, February 29, 2008, 07:27 PM EST [General]

Whew! Here it is, Friday, and this is my Saturday to work, so a long six day week for me. WHY can't I get every Saturday off! I hope this mail count makes it possible. Sunday is just not enough to catch up on housework, errands and get some rest for my tired self.

Mail count is proving to be a pain in ways I did not anticipate. Our mail-counter helper from another office is mucking up my numbers and doesn't know beans about counting. She's been doing it forever, yet she still wouldn't give me credit for things that you are supposed to get credit for. I would have to insist that she ask the PM which in turn would correct her FOR me. And considering that the PM and I are not on speaking terms, I've REALLY been suffering this week. EVERY DAY it's something. The helper wouldn't give me credit for all the out-of-town mail in my DPS and I had to say YES I DO get credit (gosh knows how much was uncounted before that). All of the markups that count as 1 bundle I got confused with because she had put 2's in for things that only count as 1 (NSN, NSS, etc.) So she's like "how'd that get there" and I'm thinking YOU WROTE IT THERE YESTERDAY, duh. And then she was out in the parking lot inspecting vehicles which she is not there to do, sorry. She comes in and asks "who has the red jeep?" and I said ME and she said "you need an inspection by the end of the week!" and I said NO I DON'T. I had 5 weeks left before I need an inspection. She followed me outside when I was loading today and asked me if I had gotten my inspection and I said "I don't need one til the end of MARCH!" *sigh*...leave me alone lady...THEN THE DAMN PM goes outside and comes back in and says "you need to rotate your tires!" I go outside and my tires still look BRAND NEW. There is one line of tread on the passenger side wearing down (always the first part to wear). I look at her office romance's van and his tires are COMPLETELY BALD. Of course she never says anything to him or anyone else that has crawled up her ass. She cut out of work with her fav carrier and they played hooky for the day and the PM has been buying her pets lunch all week...typical week just more annoying due to count.  Oh, and I showed up at 7:30 for the first few days because I thought we couldnt be there til our official clock in time, but I was always the last one there. I asked another carrier and she said "oh, the PM said we could come in at 7:15, it was ok". DAMMIT. The PM would have kept letting me come in last the rest of count if I hadn't asked. Her boy toy didnt come in til 7:30 today and she called and called trying to see where he was.  Yesterday I had a huge boxer get away from an old lady and come barreling at me. Let me tell ya: that jeep window goes up EXCRUCIATINGLY SLOW. It was halfway up by the time the boxer jumped up growling and barking into my face with spit flying everywhere...I screamed and yelled and it ran in front of the jeep, so I couldn't drive away for forever. Then it went after the guy that came out to get his package and he barely got away...ugh, ridiculous. THEN today my BRA broke halfway through the route. Stupid strap popped off the back and I had no way to get it off without someone seeing, (I work a housing development) and I had tons of layers on, so no magic work possible lol. So THAT was uncomfortable all day. Went to Walgreens to pick up medicine that they didnt have yesterday and then went to the grocery store which has been COMPLETELY remodelled so I cant find a thing...my 5 minute trip turns into 30 minutes (at 5pm, the best time to be shopping, ugh), I get home to my empty house because my other half rode to Daytona for bike week with his brother in law for the weekend. At least I have the whole bed to myself and I don't have to cook for a few days.

OH, but good news is, we have decided to go back to the Bahamas this October on another cruise, woohoo. I'm booking it this week and putting our deposits down. Now I have something to daydream about, post-office-free.

    Project Playlist

Wednesday, February 27, 2008, 03:49 PM EST [General]

I don't know if anyone else is using the project playlist music player on their page, but I finally got it where the sides aren't chopped off lol. I just changed all the pixel widths from 435 to 200 and actually condensed it instead of chopping off the sides to make it fit...I have no idea what I had tried before (I accidently deleted it, so I had to horse around with it today)...otherwise your comments on the right side are going to totally squish into one word lines! hehe

My first day of mail count

Monday, February 25, 2008, 05:35 PM EST [General]

Today was my first official day of mail count, since I was off Saturday.  I forgot how much it sucks...

I usually come in at 7 because there is plenty to do then (DPS is out at 7). Since it's mail count I can't come in til 7:30, which is fine I guess, I can sleep in. At 7:20 (I live ten minutes from work) I proceed to spill an entire glass of V8 juice on my computer desk while checking email and absolutely blow my gasket. I couldn't get papertowels FAST ENOUGH...I'm sure the wires behind my desk are sticky with juice, but dammit, there are just too many, sigh...

I finally get to work at 7:30 and begin to case my bucket mail.

Ok...do you guys case your flats first and then put your letters inside them? And I'm speaking to DPS casers here! Well I get yelled at for putting up bucket mail..."You need to case your DPS first!" they squawk.

So DAMMIT, I case 13 feet of DPS and at 9:30 I finally can case 5 buckets of JUNK in flats. They held the 2nd class periodicals for tomorrow! And I had to case the JUNKMAIL for this morning?! On top of that, I had to handle the DPS a hundred million times to get the flats UNDER it all. Everyone had like 10-20 letters today, it was a real pain my ass.  I was the LAST one out of that office today, at 11:45. It was a real joy squeezing all my mail and all my parcels into that damn cart for the one trip I'm allowed outside to do in a total of 8 minutes (which took 9). I look at my subs sheet from Saturday and it took her 24!

Oh, and speaking of subs, she called me today to explain something about saturday which just BURNS me...she said she didnt have time to look up CFS so she just put EVERYTHING that didnt match the names on the case and stuck in CFS without looking any of it up, so I should be getting it back from CFS any day now...THANKS....now I can look forward to peeling off 200 yellow labels for things that SHOULD HAVE BEEN UTF not CFS....and MOST OF IT is written on the case anyway...it ALWAYS IS. I don't know why she sends crap to UTF and CFS that is written plain as day on the case, people that have lived there for 30+ years...yeesh. I told her that NEXT TIME leave it for me to do myself, it will only take ME 30 seconds and I'd rather do that than spend 10 minutes peeling labels and bloodying under my nails.

ANYWAY. I get back to the office at 3:00 and count my raw mail, I had 118 pieces and one large priority box (someone printed for ebay or whatever). So under my letters/flats accepted I put 118 and under parcels accepted I put 1. I thought I was doing it right. My boss (who has treated me like whale shit in the bottom of the ocean for a couple months now because my nose isn't far enough up her ass) marches over and says, "You cant count that as a parcel because you didn't apply postage on it." So I said "well what DO I count it as, a LETTER?" and she says YES! I count that big box as a LETTER?! Mail count PISSES ME OFF.

So I proceed to case all the 2nd class and periodicals that I wasnt allowed to case this morning and left around 3:45, and here I am 2 hours later EXACTLY where I've wanted to be all day: In my pajamas with wine in hand. At least I get to sleep in again tomorrow :/

    Rain

Friday, February 22, 2008, 05:59 PM EST [General]

Rain, rain, and more rain...been raining for 24 hours...at least it isn't sleet! But my fingers were still numb today from grabbing all those ice cold metal mailbox lids...ugh...TGIF!

I've been fortunate that it hasn't snowed here in the past couple years...one good thing about the coast!
