    scheme this, scheme that

    Sunday, June 8, 2008, 10:42 PM [General]

I am now learning a scheme at my new office.  It is a monster, 827 items, half names, half numbers.  The SONIKS progam doesn't teach the scheme, so I have to take it home and learn (which I'm not supposed to) and make flash cards.  it is coming along nicely, but I am planning on at least four more weeks of daily training.

i got a flat tire today.  I should've bought new tires six months ago but didn't.  I guess I am lucky my tire didn't blow out sooner.    I guess I should probably save more money so it doesn't break the bank to buy one sixty dollar tire.

Well on thursday we find out the gender of the new baby.    I hope it is a girl, but a boy would be fun.  Till next time

    One Month later...

    Monday, May 26, 2008, 08:24 PM [General]

Well, it's been a month at my new office. Time sure flies by.  I have learned that I always hate the first two weeks of any new job, regardless of what it is; and it still holds true here.  The first week was okay, and I hated the second week, but it has been good since then .  It isn't fun being a PTF again.....  but life goes on and I won't be a PTF forever.  I do have to learn the city scheme here....  Bleh.  I hate learning schemes.  it isn't any easier the second time around.

My daughter is getting big, and we will find out what the gender of baby #2 in a few weeks.  My wife is happier here.  Life is still a challenge but with a happier wife, life is better than it was.

Happy Memorial day.  I found out recently that my 78 year old grandfather has prostate cancer.  He thinks he has less than one year to live.  He's in pretty good spirits though.  He has a pHd in agriculture, so he looks at everything from a scientific point of view.  He's very matter of fact about the whole situation. He and his wife have accepted it and are just trying to enjoy the remaining time.   It is sad for me... my other grandfather died from prostate cancer.  It was really hard to watch him deteriorate, it will be hard to watch it again.

    Till next time,

    Jared

last day... maybe the post office isn't so bad

    Saturday, April 26, 2008, 02:43 AM [General]

Well I was pleasantly surprised by how my last day went.  My boss called everyone into the break room and gave a 'farewell' speech to me.  It was nice to glad hand people all day long.  It is emotionally draining though.  people brought cakes, cupcakes, cookies, chocolate strawberries, and signed a card.  All the women gave me hugs.. that was fun. =)  I got some phone numbers of people that would be good for networking...  my post master said he'd take me back if I ever want to come back.  Plus all the bosses gave me easy jobs to do all of day.  Everyone's been so nice to me.... maybe they think I am retiring.  Well I have something to look forward to in 30+ years.     I think it is safe to say that I am well-liked.  I have tried to get along with everybody, and it is nice to see that people are sad to see me go.  there is one weirdo that I am glad to leave behind though, but that is a blog for another day.  I am moving tomorrow, and I don't know when I will have the internet hooked up again, so for now... adieu.

    questions

    Tuesday, April 22, 2008, 03:23 AM [General]

Since I don't currently work in a delivery office, can someone explain to me please what the differece between City Carriers and Rural Routes are, and are RCA's and Rural routes the same thing?  I also don't understand the need for distinctions...  is it like the difference between Regular clerks and casual clerks?  I have a mail processing background but since I will be transfering next week I guess I will have to learn it all.

It's official, I start at my new office on Monday, and this weekend my family and I are moving.  I am dreading this move.  but luckily some people are going to come help us pack.

I called my new supervisor today. He told me to expect working six days a week for a while.  Man I can't believe I am going to be a PTF again.   At least I don't have to go through a 90 day probation.  I think that would be the end of me.

    new week

    Monday, April 14, 2008, 12:17 AM [General]

two weeks left in the provo office.  I am getting excited.  I want to move to Bountiful, then set down roots.  I want to get involved in church, learn my job well, go to college, and buy a house.  This is it, I am ready to get serious about life.  I know I can stay with the USPS forever if I want, but I think I owe it to myself to get a bachelor's degree.  I don't even have another career in mind, I think I would be happier with myself if I can accomplish that.

My parents offered to take my daughter off of my hands for a couple of days this week.  It was really nice... a good break.  My wife was feeling better once Anna was gone, but as soon as she came back, Stef felt horrible again.  Hmm... curious.  But, what can you do?

I went to a Utah Jazz basketball game last night with my dad.  My supervisor at work gave me a pair: he said he knew I wanted to go and it was like a going away present because he really appreciated the work I had done for him over the last couple of years.  I took my dad, and the Jazz won by 27 points.  It was a good night.

    Okay.  back to the grind.
