I've really been trying to rack my brain around a certain issue. Since I provide a grievance database service for postal unions, I have had the opportunity to meet many creative postal employees, and I have even recently implemented 2 suggestions by one APWU official into my grievance software.
Just recently, I was given the rare invite (of anyone outside of the union, that is) to the APWU Tri-State conference for TN, AL, and MS. I really enjoyed meeting everyone from different locals across the tri-state area, but between sharing info and showing demos of our grievance software, I didn't have time for one very important thing.
I did not get to ask enough of the people there what they would like to see for the future.
So, seeing as this site is quickly becoming the place to be for postal employees, I would like to ask you.
Can you think of anything, technologically or otherwise, that would make your day-to-day job more efficient? I ask this because I have met so many creative people that think way outside the box in the way of automating their postal jobs.
So, think about it and post a reply to this blog about something that you could use to make your life simpler, in regards to your job. It may be some technology that hasn't been created yet, or it could be something that has nothing to do with computers or technology.

In this blog post, I really just wanted to explain briefly about My Union Journal. I created this sytem after months of surveying union members and officials to find out what they would like to see online built for them. We were even invited to attend the APWU Tri State Conference for MS, TN and AL last year to display and share with the people about our technologies.
So, MUJ was born. I found that there simply are not that many online services built for members, except for some of these great social networks like this one at postalprofiles.com, and a few other systems. But, really nothing exists for privacy.
These folks wanted a place to write, to back up family photos, and to scan and upload important documents was a big need; and most importantly a place that was completey private.

You can upload those precious photos, like vacations, birthdays, weddings.

One was a lady that had purchased MUJ and uploaded just a couple of really important photos. Unfortunately, her computer crashed two days later and she lost everything on her computer. But, with MUJ at least she was able to recover those pictures. She was so grateful and I realized that this sytem was in fact worth the time and energy we put into building it.
A gentlemen from a local union (union president) contacted me and wanted to start the process of signing up on our system to simply use it to upload and back up important union files. You see, he had just had a major flood in Iowa (it was on the news a few weeks ago), and their local's office had been destroyed. He realized that they had lost a great deal of files and computers, but he knew just by uploading some of those really important documents to MUJ from now on (grievance cases and such), that at least he could retrieve them if this ever happed again.
