    New Year 2010

Monday, January 11, 2010, 09:56 PM EST [General]

2 months into 'early' retirement.  I had thought for 28 years that I would be working for another 18 months or so, and even that was subject to extension when I had thought about it during the last few years.  But being the total opportunist I am, I took the 'incentive' and paid off all my outstanding debts.  And I'm supposed to get another 5 grand this fall too.  Bonus!  Fortunately, OPM hasn't missed a beat so far.  First annuity was direct deposited first of December and then again first of January.  Still getting 'interim payment' which is supposed to be 75% or so or the final amount and this has been about $100 less than what I was taking home every 2 pay periods.  Yeah, I know, I'm screwed out of 1 pay period a year.  Bummer! but you know?  I haven't missed getting up and going to a toxic environment for 8 hours every day.  It wasn't always toxic, but events over the last few years and the (mis)management who thought that threats and bullying and yelling were acceptable made me sit up and notice when they announced the payment.  Took me about 1.5 seconds to decide when I got the phone call from a coworker.  For at least 25 years I was proud of and truly enjoyed working for USPS but the last 2 or 3 years were enough for me to stay home and save the gas driving to work and still make pretty much what I was.  Wow, that was some dumb decision huh?   LOL

Happy new year and God bless us, every one.
