I am new to this site. But I wanted to share a letter from brother Joshua on this Memorial Day.
I have received only 3 letters from Josh in his 6 years in Iraq. He joined the Army as a Private and received a wartime appointment as an officer. His current rank is 1st Lieutenant. This is an insight to the old-timers, the wartime officer appointment hasn't been in effect since World War 2. We are in desperate times.
My brother told me that he received a heartfelt letter from the elementary scool in Effingham, Illinois:
Dear Joshua:
"The power of those "Dear Soldier" from those grade school kids don't lie in the fact that their letters are pure and from the heart. Children don't talk about being ‘for or against' the war but what they do express is their unconditional support for those serving on our behalf and appreciation of the tremendous sacrifices being made."
"I do not have the time to write each and every letter back to you Scott. But, damnit, they are so heart-wrenching. But these kids or their parents sent us these packages in the USPS large priority flat-rate boxes, Scott. "
"Each package included a letter from a child, and the letters were so moving and so funny that we decided they should be captured for all Americans and for our military to enjoy,"
"All of those packages from back home mean so much to us Scott!"
Just wanted to write back to you that your job is not as meaningless as you think it is Scott
I love you and Mom,
Josh
P.S. -
"When the wise God planted His garden,
Scattering the seeds from above,
The choicest seed in His packet
Was the flower of human love.}"
"Human love, God's gift to His children,
With our common's man fraught;
The brightest flower in God's garden,
His the truest forget-me-not."
Enough said!!
