to fast or to slow?

so on saturday a week ago i got told that i am "going to fast  and i need to slow down " i need to slow down and make sure each piece of mail is fo the number in fornt of me before i put it in the box. OK . that would take me at least 10 hours we have an L route and it is stupid i look at it in the case i look at it when i am pulling down etc.etc...

so i go to work on wed and low and behold we have another stand up talk. the pm gives this one. we need to wathc our time we are going over our time by 2.4 % and we need to be close to 1%. and no its not really the regulars that she is talking about" it is generally the subs who dont know the routes as well and they tend to take more time"

my question -- i take less time than the regular and i help everyone in the office at one point or another. why do i need to slow down would that not keep the time for our % to stay up? make up your minds!!! i am so tired of them saying one thing then turning around and telling us the EXACT opposite  the next day.

but more over -- they expect us to stay under or close to the evaluated time yet they cut so many of the routes by hours with this last count, how do they expect us to stay under doing the same amountof work for the lesser evaluated time. i think it is all a load of crap.

ok i feel better and i am not going to slow down i will do my best to go at a normal speed and if i get done i will go home i am tired of the back and forth of management.

Their double talk gets filtered in my brain. You will develop the BS filter over time. They don't care about service, they don't care about safety, they don't care how the job gets done. It's all about the numbers.

I don't check every piece....impossible! Sounds easy to those who sit behind a desk all day and have never carried mail. Like I said....through the BS filter.

The post office seems to be notorious for this type of double-speak. I believe they're the king of CYA (cover your ****). In this way THEIR **** is covered and yours is left swinging in the breeze. We can never EVER be right. Everything we do is absolutely incorrect. LOL

It is hard to stay ahead of management when they keep changing the rules. The double-standard is the norm.
At my station, if a carrier finishes his route too fast - they get jumped on for driving too much and wasting gas. Management makes them walk more on the route. If they are slow, they get jumped on for taking too much office time.
It is a never ending game that you cannot win.
